The Power of the Mind

Clinical Hypnosis

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is another name for an altered state of consciousness or trance state , the same as meditation . It is also similar to when you are completely absorbed in a film or book but at the same time aware of your real surroundings.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis by a trained therapist to guide you into this deeply relaxed and pleasurable state. Positive suggestions are then given by the therapist that will be more easily accepted by the subconscious mind and acted upon afterwards.

Hypnotherapy helps you to develop new inner strength, peace and self control.

Counselling and Life Coaching

Counselling and Life Coaching come under the same umbrella of 'talking therapies', methods that aim to help the client gain a better understanding of their own needs, thinking processes, and actions. Psychotherapy and ‘the science of the mind’ were first recognised by the fathers of psychology Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung in the late 19th century.

Since then a variety of practitioners have developed a range of modern therapies suited to contemporary life and its afflictions - a set of interrelated techniques that have replaced some of the more traditional counselling methods which were backward thinking and often blamed the past rather than focusing on a positive approach for the future.

Counselling

There are a variety of specific counselling approaches, such as Relationship Counselling or Bereavement counselling, that are somewhat different from the general counselling method that is essential for determining the needs of an individual client prior to therapy.

A counsellor encourages a client to become more communicative about the problem/s they are experiencing and then prompts them through paraphrasing and summarising. In some cases, this may be sufficient to get matters into perspective, but most people require additional therapies to really help them move past their current obstacles and dilemmas.

LIFE coaching - GROW

The concept of Life Coaching started in the 1980s, not as a therapy but to help people plan and organise their lives, whether it be financial, career related or otherwise. In order to do this, it is necessary to first check the feasibility of their ideas and to then plan according to the GROW method:

G Goal - establish the goal

R Reality Check - discuss & examine the client’s current circumstances, skills, & finances in regard to achieving the goal

O Options - explore the choices of action needed in order to reach the goal

W Will, or way forward - agree a course of action

The life coaching model and approach is extremely useful in therapy, particularly for a client who is indecisive and cannot see a way forward in choosing their future career, partner, home - or even country.

NLP and CBT

CBT Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT is particularly useful in a corporate environment and in the work place generally. It can be too analytical for certain individuals, particularly clients with depression, but even then certain aspects can still be applied to the client’s overall treatment, especially when identifying factors such as ‘self sabotage’.

CBT helps to tackle toxic thoughts with the use of the formulaic ABC method:

A - activating event (write down what triggers the feeling) B - belief (write down the thoughts and beliefs about A that went through your mind) C - consequences (of A plus B on your behaviour and emotions)

This method enables you to carry out your own behavioural investigation. For some people, doing it just once or twice as part of their overall treatment is sufficient, but others may benefit from using the formula frequently as they continue to work with a CBT practitioner, recording and discussing their problems and progress on a regular basis whilst using additional CBT exercises.

EFT

Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan. Reiki flows to the areas of need, supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

The method of receiving a Reiki treatment is a very simple process. The recipient either lies on a couch or sits comfortably in a chair . There is no need to remove clothing. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms.

  • Reiki helps relax the body, balance the emotions and clear the mind
  • Helps release blocked channels and systems within the body-mind
  • Rebalances a natural flow throughout the body and creates greater self awareness
  • Harmonises and enhances all other forms of healing, treatments, medicine and natural remedies

To benefit from Reiki you only need to be open and willing to receive the energy
